The Susie E. Barnes Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization based in Youngstown, Ohio that raises money to provide college scholarship funds to African American youth.

Susie's Legacy
Who was Susie Ethel Barnes?
Susie E. Barnes represented the essence of the word mother, exemplifying love, dedication, and sacrifice toward her husband, children, and generations of grandchildren. She also demonstrated untiring resolve working in the dietary department of South Side Hospital for thirty years. Mrs. Barnes was a faith-filled believer in God imparting the values of respect, education, generosity, and prayer.
She was a beacon of hope within her Youngstown community embodying grace, and perseverance. Her name “Susie” signifies purity, devotion, motherhood, and rebirth. Susie’s faith empowered her tenacity which inspired her to consistently say “Keep Pushing”. This foundation is committed to continuing that prevailing legacy.
Our ultimate goal is to provide college scholarships for African American youth, encouraging their drive for excellence and self-empowerment.

If you are interested in applying for a college scholarship from The Susie E. Barnes Foundation and meet the requirements below, please click below to review scholarship requirements and to submit your application.
- Applicants must be of African American descent, having at least one African American parent
- Reside in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana County
- Have a cumulitive GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Plan to pursue a four-year post-secondary degree or a two-year trade program
